Maker Faire 08
This past Friday, I went out to San Francisco to attend the Maker Faire in San Mateo. It was INCREDIBLE!!! I felt like I had died and been taken to a nerd paradise…
I honestly cannot say what the coolest thing that I saw this weekend was. The show was probably twice the size of last year, in attendance and the amount of actual “stuff”, both on display and for sale.
We got there on Friday and took a little trip up to the “Tenderloin” aka “this place looks like it is the site of a nuclear fallout, 50 years later (per my son)” to visit Gallery 1988 and Strangeco. It was a really good time and I was lucky enough to meet with one of the head honchos of Strangeco, check out the early version of the newest “Craola” toy… Let’s just say that he and Strangco have done it again and all you “vinylheads” out there should be VERY pleased.
Notice the super slick Kathie Olivas prints behind me? Bet you want one, I know that I did! The prints were nice but the paintings that were there we’re even better. :)
Walk into a little corner store before heading into Gallery 1988 and mention how much I used to like “Frankenberry” and then one of the first prints I see at 1988 is… yeah, you guessed it.. :)
Nann and Curry is DA Sheet!! Even if it is in a very sketchy part of town and you feel like it’s an ultra strange game of Frogger trying to navigate through the sidewalks of “mental illness” and “pigeons”, it’s well worth the trip!!
Here are a few of the shots from the Maker Faire
Got a chance to meet the “OG” from The Guitar Zeros www.theguitarzeros.com and watch him pelt out the pilxely bad ass tunes into the crowd…
Got to go eat dinner with my friend Kristen Rask of Schmancy and have water spilled on my crotch area by her aunt… Wow, refreshing and it’s quite the “pee pee stain look” too!
Adam with his new purchase from the Japanese dollar store… This had to be one of the most complicated drinks to open that I’d ever seen. ** luckily, the instructions tell you “don’t swallow the plunger” **
